Smart Work Zone Experiences in Southern Illinois
Smart Work Zones have been used in recent years in an attempt to provide real time traffic delays and end of queue message alerts to road users. These systems have been deployed on numerous interstate projects in Southern Illinois since 2010 and these experiences, statistics and lessons learned will be shared.
Illinois Construction Scheduling Expert System – Illinois Center for Transportation Research Project R27-86
This research project has combined highway construction scheduling expertise from a wide variety of sources, and used that expert input to provide guidance to designers as they
estimate the time required to perform various types of construction projects. The resulting Illinois Construction Scheduling Expert System (ICSES) is a software tool that is customized to Illinois and can be utilized by designers as an aid in determining the appropriate contract time limits for road and bridge construction projects.
